Week 4 Dev Log: Pulling Teeth

Okay, so I skipped the Week 3 dev log. That’s largely because I was busy banging my head against a brick wall and crying in a corner thanks to Blender.

I was having a lot of trouble bringing environments I'd made in Blender into DAZ. Part of the issue was procedural geometry, part of it was textures that looked like a Rubik’s cube assembled by a 5-year-old who swapped all the stickers around for fun. My next plan was to try and bring Jack into Blender and just build the scenes there. Nope. His hair was not having it. Absolute meltdown.

So, naturally, I lay down in my office surrounded by peripherals and empty Monster cans, looking like Jared Leto’s Joker, reevaluating my life choices. Then—salvation. A DAZ PA named Stone Mason dropped a pack full of cyberpunk assets. I felt like Rocky sprinting down the beach into Apollo Creed’s arms. Long story short: it saved my sanity.

I managed to pull a few of the buildings I'd made in Blender into DAZ and mash them together with Stone Mason’s assets. Now I’ve got a solid repository to build out Moonlight’s city streets. Hell yeah.

In the middle of all that chaos, I still managed to get around 40% of the dialogue for this chapter written. Also, quick heads up: this chapter is already looking like it’ll exceed the original length I had planned. I’ll update you with some proper stats once the full script is done so you know what’s coming.

This past week, I finally started renders. I’m thrilled to say Scene 1 is finished— It's a big scene to kick off Chapter 2, and easily the most ambitious thing I’ve done so far:

  • 102 renders
  • 7 environments
  • 7 animations

I wanted Chapter 2 to pick up right where we left off—and to hit the ground running.

I seriously can't wait for you guys to see it.

Thanks for sticking with me, – Bat
